What is blood pressure?

Blood pressure is the force exerted by blood against the walls of arteries as the heart pumps it throughout the body.

It is measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg) and is presented as two numbers: systolic (the higher number) and diastolic (the lower number).

Systolic blood pressure: This represents the pressure in the arteries when the heart contracts and pumps blood out

Diastolic blood pressure: This represents the pressure in the arteries when the heart is at rest between beats.

Normal blood pressure levels are generally considered to be around 120/80 mmHg.

However, it is essential to note that blood pressure can vary based on factors like age, gender, overall health, and lifestyle. Regular blood pressure checks are crucial for early detection of hypertension or other potential health issues.
